Do you ever have one of those days where the whole world seems like it’s turning on you? Rest assured you’re definitely not alone. That day was yesterday for me. Nothing seemed to go my way and I needed a *major* attitude adjustment because of it.

Like many people I tend to turn toward food for comfort. Let me clarify, I don’t turn toward wholesome food that will sustain my energy and give me lasting nourishment. It’s always the bad kind. The stuff I have put limitations on. The poison that I know my body doesn’t handle well. In the moment I think it’s going to make me feel good but I almost instantaneously regret it.


*Cue the motivational music* So, I picked myself up and dusted myself off. Don’t let your past mistakes dictate your future. And definitely don’t let the little things ruin your day! I’m learning every day how NOT to get in the way of the goals I’ve set for myself. So I’ve decided today will be a better day! Starting right…NOW.


Do You Care?

“Do you care?” I try to ask this question of people when I want to learn more about them and what is important to them. What really matters to them and why?

I like to consider myself as someone who doesn’t really give a crap about what anyone thinks of me and my beliefs. As time has gone by the things that I’ve become passionate about in life and health have only gotten stronger and ‘crazier’, thus, easier for one to place judgment upon. I think that almost every person has his or her own opinion about what the ‘right’ lifestyle is.

In my class at NPTI we have been reading through and discussing Sean Croxton’s book, The Dark Side of Fat Loss. Sean talks about how he used to think his clients must have been cheating on their diets since they never really had any progress even after he cranked up their cardio regimen. He states the generally accepted idea, “To lose weight, burn more calories than you consume. Period”. I can relate to this closed minded way of thinking and I’m sure a lot of you can too. I had always lived under the mentality that you just needed to ‘work harder’ or ‘run farther’ and you could eat whatever the heck you wanted as long as calories were restricted.

Where does this leave us though? It leaves us with a ton of people that work their butts off only to see no significant change in their weight. Or people who might be thin but never address their daily internal problems because they are eating a ‘healthy’ diet according to the US food pyramid. It’s time to look at the root cause of the problem and not just put a band-aid on the wound. Our bodies are sophisticated machines that need everything in balance to run smoothly. Not to mention the fact that not one of us is exactly alike.

We are snowflakes. Corny, I know…but it’s true! It took me a while to grasp, but I whole-heartedly believe it now. What works perfectly for me is not necessarily going to work for you. I’m not going to tell you what the ‘right’ diet is because I don’t think there is one. I do however think that every person should read Sean’s book. It’ll challenge your way of thinking and hopefully enable you to start testing what’s right for you to achieve optimal health and wellness.
